Strange, how small things like a clock chiming can set you off. I remember it as if it were yesterday. His Lordship rang. I was to come to the Great Hall at once. His Lordship was about to make an important announcement. What was it to be this time I wondered? It seemed that His Lordship was looking for something different in his life. He wanted to "get away from it all." So he'd spotted this terribly attractive holiday home in France. "Les Jardins...." Something or other. So would Henry...that's me...kindly take myself off to France to find out all about it. While, of course, being delighted to cater to His Lordship's every desire, I must say I did have my misgivings. For one thing, leaving His Lordship alone with the Phillipino serving maid. His Lordship always did have an eye for the ladies. Still, what could I do? Ours is not to reason why! Ah well...when His Lordship commands....so it's off to France then...to the Vendee... to Les Jardin du Chateau D'Olonne. |
